Second XI Championship - Durham v Derbyshire, August 21st, 22nd, 23rd 2013; Middlesbrough Cricket Club
A century from Scott Elstone and a five-wicket haul from Wes Durston helped Derbyshire claim a nine-wicket win in their final 2nd XI Championship fixture of the season.
Four wickets from David Wainwright (4-43) and a blistering hundred from Scott Elstone (110) helped the visitors seal a 115-run first innings lead at Middlesbrough.
Wes Durston (5-53) was the pick of the bowlers on the penultimate day, claiming a five-wicket haul, before Paul Borrington (27 not out) and Elstone (30 not out) guided the visitors to their winning target for the loss of one wicket on Day Three.
Victory ensured Stephen Stubbings’ side will finish second in the 2nd XI Championship North table.
After losing the toss, Wainwright led the way with the ball for Derbyshire on the opening morning. The 28-year-old removed both openers in quick succession on the way to claiming impressive figures of 4-43 from his 24.3 overs.
The remaining six wickets were shared between Alasdair Evans (3-30) and Durston (3-22) as Durham were all out for 208 in the 86th over.
Derbyshire still had 22 overs to face on Day One and an exceptional innings from Elstone helped put his side firmly on top at stumps. The 23-year-old struck a brutal century from just 64 balls, ending the day unbeaten on 103 with Derbyshire 133-1.
The all-rounder was finally dismissed for 110 on the second morning, but contributions from Paul Borrington (50), Wainwright (29) and Mark Turner (33) helped the visitors post 323, a lead of 115 runs.
Derbyshire produced another disciplined performance with the ball to dismiss Durham for just 203 in their second innings. Durston picked up regular wickets to end with an excellent five-wicket haul, while Tom Knight (2-30) claimed two scalps.
The visitors wasted no time in reaching their 89-run victory target. Billy Godleman led the way with a quick-fire 28, before Borrington and Elstone saw their side over the line in the 11th over to seal a terrific victory at Middlesbrough.
