Second XI Friendly - Nottinghamshire v Derbyshire, September 4th, 5th, 6th 2013; Lady Bay

Derbyshire Seconds concluded a successful 2013 season with a draw in their three-day friendly away at Nottinghamshire.
Nottinghamshire won the Toss and chose to bat first at Notts Sports Club, Lady Bay.
The hosts batted comfortably throughout the first day before declaring on 329-7 shortly before stumps. Captain Paul Franks top scored with 117, while Tilcock added 64 and Cross chipped in with an unbeaten 50.
Jonathan Marsden was the most successful Derbyshire bowler returning figures of 3-76 off his 22 overs, while Ben Cotton (2-53) picked up two wickets.
Derbyshire were left with eight overs to bat on the first day and closed 19 without loss.
On the second day, Derbyshire lost wickets at regular intervals and only scores of 37 by Scott Elstone, a timely 36 from Greg Cork and a stubborn 22 from Ben Cotton managed to raise the visitors’ total to 193 in 77 overs.
The last six wickets fell to the two spinners Wood and Tilcock who claimed three each, giving Nottinghamshire a first innings lead of 136.
With 40 overs left to play on the second day, Nottinghamshire set out to increase their lead and set Derbyshire a victory target on the final day.
At the close of play, Nottinghamshire score stood at 143-3, with Marsden, Alasdair Evans and Cork picking up a wicket apiece. This gave the hosts an overall lead of 279 runs.
Unfortunately, persistent heavy rain prevented any further play in this match which was declared a draw.
This also ended a fantastic 2013 season for Stephen Stubbings’ side, who ended their three-day campaign with five straight wins to finish second in the 2nd XI Championship North table.
