Second XI One-Day Trophy - Durham v Derbyshire, August 20th 2013; Middlesborough Cricket Club
Derbyshire Seconds secured a 21-run win against Durham in their one-day Trophy fixture at Middlesborough.
Half centuries from Billy Godleman (50), Paul Borrington (51) and Scott Elstone (58) helped the visitors post 225-6 off their 40 overs. Durham started their reply with a 75-run opening stand, but three wickets apiece from Mark Turner and David Wainwright help dismiss the hosts for 203 to hand Stephen Stubbings’ side victory.
After winning the toss, Paul Borrington chose to bat first on a pitch that looked as though it would be helpful to the spin bowlers later in the match.Openers Godleman and Borrington produced an excellent opening stand adding 106 runs for the first wicket. This superb stand was followed by a quick-fire 58 off 35 balls by Scott Elstone to move Derbyshire onto 188-5 in the 36th over.
Some lusty blows down the order from Tom Knight (22 not out) and Turner (11 not out) helped the visitors get up to 225-6 in their innings.
Durham also had a useful start to their innings with their first three batsmen all recording scores in the mid-30s. The openers added 75 runs before Wainwright removed Singh for 35.
After the opening stand, wickets fell at regular intervals against the pace bowling of Mark Turner, who returned figures of 3-39 off his 7.1 overs.
The spin bowlers turned the match firmly in favour of Borrington’s side with Wainwright (3-43), Knight (1-28) and Elstone (2-48) claiming six wickets amongst them to finally dismiss Durham for 203 in the 39th over.
