Over 10,000 spectators attended the 2013 Hill Dickinson Chesterfield Festival of Cricket held at Queen’s Park, Chesterfield.
Supporters enjoyed five days of top-class county cricket, as two Friends Life t20 fixtures bookended a LV= County Championship clash at the picturesque ground.
Despite the heroics of Albie Morkel - who picked up four wickets and struck 51 off just 31 balls – Yorkshire Vikings claimed a narrow six-run win in the opening fixture of the festival.
On the second day, Chesterfield was turned pink as Australian Test Cricket legend and Co-Founder of the McGrath Foundation, Glenn McGrath, spearheaded a star-studded charity Twenty20 line-up in support of the McGrath Foundation, the Cricket Derbyshire Community Foundation and UK charity Breast Cancer Care.
Derbyshire legends Kim Barnett, Devon Malcom and Kevin Dean rolled back the years and all competed in charity match, enjoyed by over 2,000 spectators all donning the colour pick in support of the McGrath Foundation.
Yorkshire returned to Queen’s Park on the following Wednesday for the LV=CC fixture. Alex Lees’ unbeaten 275 helped guide the visitors to victory, in which the Chesterfield crowd was treated to an exceptional century from Captain Wayne Madsen.
On the final day of the festival,Derbyshire entertained Durham Dynamos in the Falcons’ penultimate home Friends Life t20 fixture of the season. In a low scoring affair, a brutal 46 off 24 balls from Ben Stokes proved to be the difference, as the Dynamos sealed a narrow four wicket victory.
