Scottish Saltires fixture washed out

DerbyNo result was possible between Derbyshire and Scottish Saltires, after only nine overs of the Yorkshire Bank 40 fixture were bowled due to heavy rain.

With Derbyshire on 36-2, heavy rain forced the players off the field after just 40 minutes of play, and persistent rain forced an abandonment at 8.00pm as both sides had to settle for a point in the floodlit fixture.

After being asked to bat first, Derbyshire made a cautious start with former Warwickshire man Neil Carter leading the Scotland attack, conceding just seven runs in his opening five overs.  But Chesney Hughes quickly found his feet and got off the mark with a big six over backward square-leg off Gordon Goudie.

The opener continued his power-hitting display, hitting four fours and a six in his brisk 30-ball innings, before he was the second man out for 30 after he was superbly ran out by Richie Bennington.

This followed the dismissal of Durston who was caught by Moneeb Iqbal off Carter for four, as Derbyshire moved onto 36-2 mid-way through the tenth over.

But the forecasted rain arrived soon after, forcing the players off the field – and the rain persisted for the remainder of the before the match was abandoned at 8.00pm, with both team’s picking up a point at the County Ground.
