Derbyshire bowlers endured a long but productive opening day of the two-day friendly against Worcestershire in Abu Dhabi.
On a very good batting track, Worcestershire won the toss and had no hesitation in electing to bat first.
Daryl Mitchell and Matthew Pardoe shared a 106-run opening stand in 37 overs, before Jonathan Clare found the breakthrough shortly after lunch.
Pardoe – who had hit six fours and one six – was clean bowled by Clare for 43 off 101 balls, but Worcestershire continued to tick the scoreboard over moving to tea without further loss.
Tom Kohler-Cadmore played nicely alongside his Captain - striking three sixes and five fours - to move onto 45 at the interval, while Mitchell was still there on 84 – which included nine fours.
Tony Palladino bowled economically throughout the day for Graeme Welch’s side, bowling 10 overs for just 15 runs at the break.
Mitchell completed his century shortly after the restart, retiring on exactly 100 off 185 balls which included 12 fours.
His partner Kohler-Cadmore passed his half-century soon after, but was unable to repeat his Captain’s feat and was out for 61 – including seven fours and three sixes.
Mark Footitt claimed the wicket to end a productive day for the left arm seamer who returned figures of 1-22 off his 10 overs.
One more wicket followed, a mix-up between Alex Kervezee (42 not out) and Tom Fell with the latter run out for 36 in the 84th over.
Worcestershire reached the closed without further loss to end the day on 310 for four, with Ross Whiteley 10 not out.
It was, however, a useful run out for the Derbyshire bowlers, all of which bowled at some point during the day.
Palladino finished with figures of 0-20 off his 12 overs, while young Ben Cotton bowled 11 good overs conceding 37 runs. Wainwright bowled 18 overs for 62 runs and Tim Groenewald completed 11 overs for 35 runs.
Day two against Worcestershire in Abu Dhabi begins tomorrow at 6.30am (UK time).
