Derbyshire Second XI succumbed to a 186-run defeat on the final day of their three-day friendly against Leicestershire Second XI at Grace Road.
Leicestershire declared midway through the morning session on 297-2 with Greg Smith top-scoring with an unbeaten 158.
In reply, Derbyshire reached 46-2 at lunch with Paul Borrington 21 not out, but the visitors lost a flurry of wickets after the restart to fall to 67-5.
But a 98-run stand between Jonathan Clare (48) and former Lancashire wicketkeeper Gareth Cross (52), who is on trial with the Club, moved the visitors onto 165-5 just before tea.
The pair, however, both fell after the resumption and despite some lower order runs from the tail, Derbyshire were dismissed for 242 as Leicestershire claimed victory.
Derbyshire begin their new season with a one-day trophy fixture against Worcestershire on Tuesday 29 April at Alvaston and Boulton Cricket Club; 11am start.
