An unbeaten century from Paul Borrington helped Derbyshire Second XI secure a six-wicket win over Worcestershire in their One-Day Trophy fixture at Alvaston and Boulton Cricket Club.
Paceman Ben Cotton (3-42 off 9 overs) and all-rounder Alex Hughes (3-67 off 10 overs) both claimed three wickets apiece, while spin bowler Tom Knight returned impressive figures of 2 for 35 off 10 overs as Worcestershire posted 265-8 off their 50 overs.
Opener Richard Oliver top scored for the visitors with 107; while Joe Leach added 56 to help their side post a solid total.
Derbyshire made a good start in reply with Jonathan Clare (25), Ben Slater (26) and Captain Scott Elstone (36) all making useful early contributions which set the foundation for Borrington and Alex Hughes to guide John Sadler’s side to victory with eight balls to spare.
Borrington top score with 110 not out off 134 balls, including 10 fours and a six, while Alex Hughes added 64 off just 48 balls, including eight fours and one six, to ensure the Second XI started their one-day campaign with a win.
