Fast bowler Ben Aitchison will likely miss the rest of the 2020 season after suffering ankle ligament damage.
The 21-year-old, who has taken six wickets in the Bob Willis Trophy with best figures of 3-55, sustained the injury while going through a training routine during the lunch interval on Day Three versus Durham.
A scan yesterday revealed the extent of the damage and the seamer will now undergo a rehabilitation programme set out by Derbyshire’s medical team.
Head of Cricket, Dave Houghton, said: “This is extremely disappointing for Ben and the club. He’s quickly become an important part of our bowling attack and he has the skills to adapt to the short-format cricket we’ve got coming up.
“We will closely monitor Ben’s recovery and I have no doubt he’ll work hard during his rehabilitation and hopefully come out stronger from the experience.”
