Critchley named in Wisden XI

Derbyshire all-rounder Matt Critchley has been named in Wisden’s Under-24 Team of the Bob Willis Trophy.

The 24-year-old adds this latest recognition to a list of accolades this summer which also include winning the club’s Player of the Year Award and achieving career-best figures of 6-73 against Leicestershire.

The final innings bowling performance at The Fischer County Ground asserted the leg spinner as a match-winner for Derbyshire with both bat and ball, his fine spell showing experience and awareness to close out victory.

In total, Critchley claimed 17 wickets in the Bob Willis Trophy – the most of any bowler in the North Group – at an average of 26.88, proving himself to be a reliable partnership-breaker across all five matches.

He also struck 234 runs at an average of 39.00, including one half-century, as he surpassed 50 first-class appearances for the club.
