Preparation continues on Day One

Derbyshire’s squad got more crucial time in the middle on Day One of the four-day pre-season friendly against Lancashire.

Captain Billy Godleman (44 and 39 not out), Anuj Dal (30 and six not out), Fynn Hudson-Prentice (23) and Matt Critchley (22) all made starts at Emirates Old Trafford, as the squad builds match fitness ahead of the 2021 season.

Following on from the concurrent two-day friendlies against Yorkshire and Leicestershire last week, Derbyshire batted first in Manchester and Godleman showed attacking intent from the off, with 36 of his 44 runs coming from boundaries.

His 56-ball innings came to an end when he was caught by Alex Davies off the bowling of Josh Bohannon, shortly after Luis Reece (8) had departed.

Dal top-scored with 72 against Yorkshire last time out, and he continued to show his class against the Red Rose, playing a fluent 30 off of 52 balls, before being trapped lbw by Saqib Mahmood.

As agreed prior to the start of play, Derbyshire continued their innings until the close of play, with Godleman and Reece returning to the crease, with the forming holding his own in the final hour to hit an unbeaten 39.
