Wayne Madsen’s unbeaten 76* was the highlight of a difficult batting day for the visitors, after Sam Conners had earlier claimed career-best figures of 5-83 to dismiss the hosts for 475.
David Bedingham was responsible for 257 of those runs, the highest score by a Durham player against Derbyshire, while Matt Critchley added 40 runs to his impressive start to the season.
Derbyshire ended the day still 327 runs behind on 148-5, with Hosein (5 not out) also at the crease with Madsen.
