A century partnership between Matt Critchley and Harvey Hosein gave Derbyshire a chance of victory, before snow prevented anything more than a draw at Edgbaston.
Critchley (83) and Hosein (78 not out) put on 113 for the sixth wicket, helping Derbyshire to set the hosts a target of 213 from 41 overs on the final evening.
However, only 25 deliveries were bowled before snow arrived and forced the players from the field, bringing an end to an enthralling opening game of the LV= County Championship season.
Beginning the day five wickets down and with a lead of just 39, Derbyshire needed a strong partnership to force their way into contention, and that’s exactly what they got from the strong defences of Critchley and Hosein.
Critchley reached his second half-century of the match in 73 balls, including eight fours, before falling lbw to Liam Norwell, shortly before Hosein himself reached 50, with eight of his 103 deliveries up to that point resulting in boundaries.
Dismissed for 244, Derbyshire set the hosts a target of 213, but less than five overs were possible before weather more befitting of a chilly December afternoon took over Edgbaston, bringing an end to the contest.
Derbyshire will take 11 points from the draw, while Warwickshire earned 12 points.
