Wickets and rain fall on Day Three

Each side lost five wickets before rain prevented play for much of Day Three of the LV= County Championship game against Warwickshire.

A flurry of wickets from Luis Reece, Matt Critchley and Michael Cohen early on the third morning saw Derbyshire dismiss the hosts for 221.

However, Derbyshire also fell to five down before the weather intervened, leaving the visitors leading by 39 on 71-5, with Critchley (23*) and Hosein (0*) in.

Derbyshire made a bright start to the day, with Reece making an early breakthrough by bowling Tim Bresnan for 35, while Critchley (2-22) and Cohen (2-40) finished off the Warwickshire innings on 221, leading by 32.

However, as happened on Day One, Derbyshire’s innings got off to a difficult start, with Reece (3), Dal (4) and du Plooy (0) all falling to Hannon-Dalby before lunch.

Billy Godleman reached 20 before the paceman had him caught by Rob Yates to bring about lunch, while Wayne Madsen (20) was dismissed in the same manner, shortly before rain forced the players from the field.

Critchley (23*) and Hosein will resume on the fourth morning, hoping to add to Derbyshire’s lead of 39.
