John ‘JD’ Brown passes away

One of Derbyshire’s longest-serving employees and volunteers, John ‘JD’ Brown has died.

Heritage Officer, David Griffin, writes;

Universally known as ‘JD’, John undertook an assortment of coaching roles within the club between 1971 and 2001 although his principal position was that of Youth Development Coach, and it’s no exaggeration to suggest that thousands of young cricketers benefitted from his coaching services over the years of his association with Derbyshire, and not just exclusively inside the county club.

He coached wherever there was a need, and he was a regular for decades on the club cricket circuit within the county.

For services to the Club in his coaching roles he was awarded an Honorary Life Membership on his retirement in 2001, before being elected to the Club’s General Committee in 2003 where he served for a decade, subsequently becoming a Vice President of the club.

A familiar face amongst Derbyshire players, members and supporters, as well as throughout the amateur game in the county, ‘JD’ will be fondly remembered as an engaging and entertaining cricket-lover who served his county with distinction.

Everyone at Derbyshire County Cricket Club would like to extend their deepest sympathy to the Brown family and friends.
