Leus du Plooy top-scored in both innings, as South Western Districts overcame Easterns inside three days in the CSA Four-Day Franchise Series.
The left-hand batter made a battling 91 from 232 balls on Day One, salvaging the first innings after arriving at the crease with his side 11-2 at Oudtshoorn, with South Western Districts posting a total of 242 all out.
Easterns replied with 250, gaining a slender eight-run lead, but an unbeaten 85 saw du Plooy stand out, as only two other players reached double-figures for SWD, who were all out for 193.
However, the Derbyshire man’s knock was made to look even more impressive with what followed, as Easterns were themselves bowled out for just 65. Incredibly, Sean Whitehead claimed all ten wickets in the second innings, with du Plooy chipping in with one catch, to secure the 120-run victory.
Elsewhere, Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur’s final series as Head Coach of Sri Lanka began on Sunday, with the hosts posting 386 in the first innings at Galle against the West Indies.
Arthur will join up with his new Derbyshire squad early next month, upon the conclusion of the two-Test series.
