Arthur provides update on arrival, recruitment and more

Mickey Arthur is hoping to begin work with Derbyshire within the next two weeks, after visa issues and Covid-19 delayed his start to life as the Club’s Head of Cricket.

Arthur is currently in Dubai, as he works through the final stages of his work permit application, which he hopes will be sorted by the second week in February, but has remained in constant contact with each member of the squad and coaching staff.

Having been announced as Derbyshire’s Head of Cricket in November, it was initially hoped Arthur would arrive at The Incora County Ground by mid December, but issues regarding his visa application pushed that back, before he tested positive for Covid-19 earlier this month.

Despite the unavoidable obstacles, Arthur remains upbeat about the situation and he’s looking forward to meeting the players, coaches and Members in person very soon.

“I would love to be in Derby right now with the boys, I’ve been in constant contact with the guys, working through gameplan strategies and brand of play,” he said.

“In December, when I was still in Sri Lanka, I went to get my visa. I had all my paperwork setup correctly, but I only had one page left in my passport, which I thought was good enough to put a visa in, but they turned that down and said I couldn’t.

“That led to a process of getting a new passport as quickly as I could, which has now arrived, and I have my final appointment tomorrow [Friday], for my work permit to be processed.

“Hopefully, within the next seven to ten days, I will be in Derby and working with that squad I’m so excited to work with.”
