Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, has given his thoughts on Derbyshire’s two-day pre-season friendly against Lancashire.
The 14-man Derbyshire squad, led by Billy Godleman, all gained valuable match practice, with openers Godleman and Harry Came (37 not out) adding an unbeaten 53 to close the day, while on Day One Alex Thomson claimed 2-27.
Arthur said: “I think the players have been outstanding in training, but to be honest we lacked a little bit out in the middle, particularly with our batting early in the innings. But we put it together later in the innings with Harry and Billy getting some good batting time.
“It’s important that the guys have had a hit out in the middle against a competitive attack and hopefully from Notts our batting group should hit the ground running.
“I thought there was some real positives with our bowling. Apart from the first hour, where I thought we were average. But we pulled that back later in the day and we really built some pressure, got some bowling partnerships going, and pressure leads to wickets ultimately.”
Arthur also confirmed that fast bowler, Ben Aitchison, will undergo an MRI scan, with the 22-year-old taking no further part in the game since the first session on the opening day.
He added: “We have no prognosis yet, he [Aitchison] is having an MRI as we speak.”
