Derbyshire’s Academy continued their winter preparations by having an Academy Tour of Desert Springs Resort in Spain.
From Saturday 19 to Friday 25 February, the Academy squad stayed and trained at the resort, mirroring the first team, who have been in since Monday 7 March and will return to England tomorrow.
The six days consisted of outdoor nets, middle practice on the main cricket ground, as well as playing three T20 fixtures against two touring teams, going unbeaten throughout the week.
The preparation was valuable time to get the players outside on grass ready for the start of the 2022 season, after already four months of winter training indoors at The Incora County Ground.
The time also allowed the ten players to experience a different environment as a team away from Derbyshire. The players trained hard throughout the tour , with downtime included during a few afternoons with players opting to make use of the fantastic facilities using the golf course, gym, swimming pool or exploring the area away from the Resort.
Head of Talent Pathway, Daryn Smit, said “The week at Desert Springs was beneficial in so many ways and it was great to see the players develop as cricketers and young adults throughout the time away. This warm weather preparation will no doubt stand the group in great stead going into the start of the season.”
