Godleman hits century as Derbyshire beat Shropshire

Billy Godleman led the way with an electric 111, as Derbyshire put in a good team performance to defeat Shropshire by 236 runs at Shifnal.

Godleman reached his half-century in just 17 balls, and his strike-rate was still above 200 when he reached three figures, as he and Luis Reece (76) put on 183 for the opening wicket, before Tom Wood (75 not out, 2-1) and Anuj Dal’s (37 not out) 93-run stand saw the visitors to 325-4 from just 36 overs.

With the ball, Sam Conners (3-13) was the pick of the bowlers, while Wood, Nick Potts, Ben Aitchison and Mattie McKiernan shared  another six wickets. George Hargrave top-scored for the hosts with an impressive 69 not out.

Morning rain delayed the start of the match until 1pm, with the fixture reduced to 36 overs-per-side, with Shropshire electing to field after winning the toss,

Derbyshire now turn their attention to Tuesday’s Royal London Cup opener against defending champions Glamorgan at The Incora County Ground, with tickets on sale now.
