Wagstaff called up to England Under 19s Test squad

Derbyshire youngster, Mitch Wagstaff, has been called-up to the England Under 19s squad for their Test Match against Sri Lanka at The Incora County Ground, starting Sunday (11am).

Wagstaff, who is a product of the Cricket Derbyshire Academy, in partnership with the University of Derby, top-scored with 53 against Sri Lanka Under 19s earlier this month, as part of a Young Lions Invitational XI at Loughborough.

The 2021 Pathway Player of the Year was a regular member of the Derbyshire first team squad throughout the Royal London Cup campaign, working closely with Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur.

A left-handed batter, the 18-year-old scored an unbeaten 89 for the Derbyshire Second XI against a strong Lancashire side at Sale CC in June, taking his Second XI Championship average for the season to 44.

Wagstaff could make his full England Under 19s debut against Sri Lanka this Sunday at The Incora County Ground. Entry for this fixture is free for all spectators, although it should be noted the Members’ Lounge will be closed, however the Falcons Bar will be open to purchase beverages and snacks.

This game will also be Live Streamed on the Club’s official YouTube channel across all four days.

England were defeated by three wickets in the opening Test of the series at the Cloud County Ground, and will be hoping to draw level at Derby, ahead of the upcoming ODI series against the same opposition.
