Derbyshire sign Morley on loan

Derbyshire have signed promising left-arm spinner, Jack Morley, on a season-long loan from Lancashire.

Morley, 22, has claimed 25 first-class wickets in nine appearances for the Red Rose, while he was one of the standout performers in the 2023 Second XI Championship, claiming 32 wickets at an average of 21.87.

The young spinner also has 21 List A wickets to his name, ten of which came in last year’s Metro Bank One Day Cup, as he helped Lancashire reach the quarter-finals.

Capped at under 19s level for England, Morley will become the Club’s eighth new recruit, with Samit Patel, Pat Brown, David Lloyd, Blair Tickner, Aneurin Donald and Ross Whiteley all having joined over the winter.

Morley will join up with Derbyshire ahead of the pre-season friendly against the South Asian Cricket Academy, starting on Tuesday 26 March, he will be available for all formats during the 2024 campaign.

Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, said: “We wanted to add to our spin bowling depth and Jack is a highly-rated prospect, one which we are very excited to welcome into our squad.

“Our recruitment during the winter has given us multiple options in every position and format, that’s something we focussed heavily on and it will give us the best opportunity to compete in every game.”

Morley added: “I feel that I’m at a stage in my career where I need to play more first team cricket and the opportunity to work with Mickey Arthur and the Derbyshire setup is one which really stood out to me.

“There are some really good players here, with experience that I can learn from, and I want to show what I can do on the pitch to win games for Derbyshire.”
