Following the recent announcement by the England & Wales Cricket Board, Derbyshire County Cricket Club would like to publicly confirm its position regarding the proposed changes to the domestic structure.

As confirmed to Members last week, the Club did not support the proposed changes to the County Championship structure.

The Board’s position was formed based on the feedback of all stakeholders involved, including players, as well as Member consultation meetings and in-depth survey data from supporters.

The Club’s Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, as well as the coaching and playing staff, were resoundingly in support of the status quo over what was put forward as the proposed changes.

The Board strongly believes that the fine balance between player welfare, the commercial impact of the domestic structure, as well as the needs of spectators, can be addressed by making adjustments to the schedule, as opposed to reducing the number of days of cricket.

Following the result of this process, the Board, cricket department, and the Club’s Executive Team will continue to work collaboratively to promote and champion the game of cricket and celebrate what continues to be a fantastic domestic product across all formats.
