Former Derbyshire captain, David Lloyd, will retire from professional cricket at the end of the 2025 season.

Lloyd, 33, has scored 5,915 first-class runs, with his high-score of 313 not out for Glamorgan coming against Derbyshire at Sophia Gardens in 2022. He also claimed 115 wickets in red ball cricket.

The right-handed batter scored 3,411 runs in the white ball formats, with his aggressive and entertaining style leading to 22 half-centuries.

After a prominent career with Glamorgan, much of which was spent as captain, Lloyd joined Derbyshire on a three-year deal in 2023 and led the side in the 2024 season, before stepping down to be replaced by Wayne Madsen for 2025.

Everyone at Derbyshire County Cricket Club thanks David for his efforts and wish him the very best for the future.

Lloyd said: “I’ve been fortunate to enjoy more than a decade in professional cricket and have some fantastic memories. I’ve made friends for life and will always be proud of what I’ve achieved in the game.

“I feel the time is right to step away and pursue the next stage in my career. I would like to express my sincere thanks to Derbyshire, as well as to my family and friends, for their continued support.”

Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, added: “Lloydy has had an excellent career and it’s been a pleasure to work with him for the last two years.

“He always gives his all; I have the upmost respect for him as a cricketer and an individual and we will continue to support him in his next steps.”
