Five of England’s biggest talents have been selected for the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) in India.
The WPL, which takes place throughout January and February 2026, will see some of the world’s best players do battle in T20 action as Nat Sciver-Brunt’s Mumbai Indians aim to defend their title.
England Women captain, Sciver-Brunt, has won the WPL twice in just three editions and has been a key player for Mumbai Indians with bat and ball. She will be joined in blue by New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr, ahead of the two facing off in a Vitality IT20 at Derby in May 2026.
Linsey Smith and Lauren Bell have been signed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, after both players enjoyed stellar performances at the ICC Women’s World Cup in India and Sri Lanka earlier this year, while Danni Wyatt-Hodge (Gujarat Giants) and Sophie Ecclestone (UP Warriors) have also been selected.
WBBL update
Plenty of England stars have been lighting up the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), with Danni Wyatt-Hodge leading the way for the table-topping Hobart Hurricanes.
Derbyshire Women & Girls Pathway alumni, Wyatt-Hodge, has scored 416 runs across nine innings at an average of 52, helping Hobart to seven wins an appearance in the knockout stages on the horizon.
Derby-born, Sarah Glenn, who also came through the Derbyshire system, made an exceptional return to WBBL action, claiming 4-18 for Brisbane Heat, while fellow spinners: Linsey Smith, Alice Capsey and Sophie Ecclestone have combined for 39 wickets so far.
Sophia Dunkley (250 runs) and Heather Knight (201 runs) have also been in good form with the bat, as the competition enters its latter stages.
England at Derby 2026
England will return to Derby in 2026 for two huge fixtures at The Central Co-op County Ground against New Zealand (Vitality IT20) and Ireland (Metro Bank ODI).
Following a record ballot window, which saw two times as many England fans book as last season, more tickets have been sold for international fixtures at The Central Co-op County Ground during the first month of general sale than ever before.
Demand for tickets remains high, with the Early Bird Window still open and a huge winter of women’s cricket around the globe to come and the ICC T20 World Cup also set to take place on English soil next summer.
