Members of the Derbyshire squad and coaching staff have been playing in various parts of the globe over the past few weeks. Here, we catch up to see how everyone has been getting on.
Mohammad Abbas is currently in Pakistan, playing for State Bank of Pakistan. As he prepares for his Derbyshire stint, the President’s Trophy provides excellent red ball preparation for the seamer.
He has claimed 15 wickets in three games so far, at a miserly average of 13.40 and an economy rate of 1.99 – the best of any player in the competition to bowl a ball.
Derbyshire Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, is out in Bangladesh coaching Rangpur Riders. His side have qualified for the knockout stages of the tournament and play tomorrow in an Eliminator fixture against Sylhet Titans.
Caleb Jewell will be back in Sheffield Shield action at the beginning of February, after the completion of the Big Bash.
The left-hander had limited game time in the T20 tournament, as a star-studded top order for Melbourne Renegades failed to qualify for the knockout stages.
Harry Moore is currently in India as part of an England batting camp. Moore continues his recovery from a back injury sustained last pre-season that ruled him out of the whole 2025 season, as well as the ongoing Under 19s World Cup.
Jack Morley has spent the winter in Australia, where he is playing club cricket for Airport West St Christopher’s. In 11 matches so far, the left-arm spinner has claimed 18 wickets at an average of 16.89, as well as scoring 265 runs at an average of 37.86.
Nick Potts is also out in Australia preparing for the 2026 season, having headed Down Under just after the New Year.
Wayne Madsen, the recently appointed captain of Italy, starts his World Cup preparations this Friday with three warmup fixtures against Ireland.
The Azzurri, who will take part in their first ever T20 World Cup, announced their squad last week with a familiar name in the coaching setup – Peter di Venuto. His brother, Michael, played 88 first-class matches for the county, scoring over 7,000 runs.
Head Coach of the Central Stags in New Zealand, Ben Smith continues his association with the side after leading them to silverware last season.
The Stags face an intense battle to qualify for the latter stages heading into the closing group stages, but a win tomorrow against Northern Districts would place the team third, with two more games to play.
