Non-Executive Director – Operations & Facilities, Ian McFarlane, has been appointed Chair of Derbyshire County Cricket Club.
McFarlane, who has had an extensive career primarily as a Board Member at Briggs of Burton PLC, has served as a Non-Executive Director on the Club’s Board since 2017.
His vast business experience includes responsibility for commercial relationships, bid management, engineering project and engineering construction management, risk management and resource management.
McFarlane succeeds Ian Morgan OBE, who, in-line with the England & Wales Cricket Board’s Governance rules, stood down as Chair at the Club’s Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 25 March, having served for nine years in the role.
During his time as Chair, Morgan has steered Derbyshire through significant milestone moments, including guiding the Club to a debt-free position and strengthening its long-term financial sustainability, while increasing investment in the playing budget, as well as upgrading facilities at The Central Co-op County Ground.
McFarlane has been instrumental throughout the same period, overseeing projects including three new digital screens, additional spectator seating, a new Multi-Faith Room and Family Toilet block, and in the coming months will support ongoing projects regarding new floodlights and outfield re-development.
Ian McFarlane said: “It is a great honour to be appointed Chair of Derbyshire County Cricket Club. We have made great progress as a Club in recent years, and I would personally like to thank Ian Morgan for his commitment and dedication as Chair throughout my time on the Board.
“I look forward to continuing to work closely with Ian, our fellow Board members, staff and the Club’s Members to build on the strong foundations already in place and drive continued progress both on and off the field.”
Outgoing Chair, Ian Morgan OBE, said: “It has been a privilege to serve as Chair over the past nine years, and I am proud of the progress the Club has made during that time. Ian brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the Club, and I know that Derbyshire has a talented and passionate Board and Chair to lead the Club in what is an extremely exciting time for the game.”
Both Ian Morgan and Ian McFarlane were re-elected to the Board for additional three-year terms by Members.
