Building pressure the key for Scrimshaw

Building pressure the key for Scrimshaw

George Scrimshaw believes Derbyshire’s ability to build pressure on the batsmen was key in their Vitality Blast victory against Northants Steelbacks.

The young quick played a crucial role in keeping the visitors’ total down to 141, conceding just 13 runs from his four overs, a feat bettered by only five Derbyshire players in T20 cricket, while his dismissal of the dangerous Ricardo Vasconcelos (38) put Derbyshire in pole position for victory.

Having suffered two disappointing home defeats against Lancashire Lightning and Birmingham Bears, the win over Northants was a welcome boost for the Falcons, who are now four points clear of the bottom two, and within two points of the top four in a tight North Group.

Scrimshaw praised the efforts of the entire squad for creating a difficult environment for the opposition, and hopes the win can be the starting of a good run, with difficult games against Notts Outlaws and Yorkshire Vikings to come.

“It was a brilliant effort from all the lads, we’ve taken our chances tonight,” he told BBC Radio Derby.

“Fynn takes two quick wickets and the pressure’s right on the new batsmen. I don’t think we could have asked for anything else. We put our foot on the gas and the pressure built, I think their players felt that when they came in to bat.

“The last couple of games, it could have been so different if we take catches here and there, if we’d got 15 more runs against Birmingham Bears, it would have been a different game, I think we’ve been a little bit unlucky so far, but we’re playing some good cricket and hopefully more results will come. We’re all up for the game against Nottinghamshire.”
