Leus du Plooy starts for South Western Districts in their CSA Franchise Four-Day Series game against Easterns today, while new Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, begins his final Test series with Sri Lanka this weekend.
Left-hand batter, du Plooy, scored 22 in his first red-ball game for SWD, as they were held to a draw by Mpumalanga Rhinos, and will be looking to build form in first-class cricket ahead of the 2022 campaign.
While his stats in the LV= County Championship reflected the struggles that many Derbyshire players endured in 2021, du Plooy was exception in the Vitality Blast, finishing as the Club’s leading run-scorer, with 395 to his name. He also scored a powerful 55 in his T20 debut for South Western Districts in the quarter-final of the CSA Provincial Cup.
As du Plooy’s fixture concludes on Sunday, newly-appointed Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, will be beginning his final Test series as Head Coach of Sri Lanka against the West Indies.
Arthur will take charge of the Sri Lankan team for both Test Matches in the series at Galle, before joining up with the Derbyshire squad in early December, as the side continues to prepare for the 2022 campaign.
