Conners guides England Lions to victory over South Africa

Sam Conners claimed 4-25 in the second innings, as England Lions beat South Africa by an innings and 56 runs at Canterbury.

The Cricket Derbyshire Academy, in partnership with the University of Derby, graduate was a key part of the Lions’ attack, as South Africa prepare for their upcoming Test series against England.

Conners didn’t take a wicket in the first innings, but he fired back on Day Four in Kent, dismissing Ryan Rickelton shortly after midday before taking the final three wickets in the space of ten deliveries.

The 23-year-old is the second Derbyshire seamer to represent the Club on the international stage this summer, after George Scrimshaw played two white ball fixtures against South Africa last month.

Conners will now return to Derbyshire ahead of Sunday’s Royal London Cup fixture against Worcestershire, for which he’s been named in the squad.
