Derbyshire roundup: Madsen and Masood produce match-winning knocks

Shan Masood began his Pakistan National T20 campaign with a half-century, as Balochistan overcame Central Punjab.

The left-handed batter scored 54 in the victory, continuing his stellar 2022, and will next be in action against Southern Punjab. Masood will miss Derbyshire’s LV= County Championship fixture against Durham, but is expected to be back for the matches against Glamorgan and Leicestershire.

Closer to home, Derbyshire will welcome back a trio of players for next week’s match, as Wayne Madsen, Leus du Plooy and George Scrimshaw all return from their spells in The Hundred.

Madsen has been a regular for Manchester Originals, alongside England batters Jos Buttler and Phil Salt, scoring 150 runs, including a match-winning 53 not out to guide his side to the knockout stages of the competition.

The 38-year-old batter will play against London Spirit on Friday at The Ageas Bowl, as they compete for a place in the final against Trent Rockets.

The batter has scored more than 1,000 LV= County Championship runs already this season, and will be a key cog in Derbyshire’s top order as Mickey Arthur’s side aim for a place in the top two.

While Welsh Fire were unable to win a game this season, both Scrimshaw and du Plooy enjoyed impressive showings, with the former claiming the wickets of Jason Roy, Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone, among others, across his four appearances.

Having not been selected in the first four games, du Plooy made up for lost time once given the opportunity, scoring 90 runs across four innings, to become the Cardiff-based side’s fourth-highest run-scorer.
