Academy squad enjoys pre-season training camp

Derbyshire continued their winter preparations by having an Academy Tour of Desert Springs Resort, in the Almanzora region of Almeria, Andalucía in south-east Spain last month.

The six-day camp consisted of outdoor nets and middle practice on the main cricket ground. It also allowed the batsman to face some Surrey Academy Pace Bowlers as well. The preparation was valuable time to get the players outside on grass ready for the start of the 2023 season after already three months of winter training at The Incora County Ground.

The time also allowed the six players to experience a different environment as a team away from Derbyshire. As well as training, the players had downtime to make use of the fantastic facilities using the golf course, gym, swimming pool and padel tennis.

Derbyshire CCC Head of Talent Pathway Daryn Smit said of the tour ’’ The energy and intensity that the sixz players showed during the trip was fantastic to see. Their attitude towards their training and in particular their desire to always want to do more was exactly what we as coaches want to see. It is important for us now to keep the lads just as motivated when we get back indoors again now for the next few weeks.”
