Derbyshire batter, Wayne Madsen, has been called up by Italy for their ICC Twenty20 World Cup qualification tournament, starting in Scotland later this month.
Madsen will be available for Derbyshire’s LV= County Championship fixture against Durham, but will then join up with the Italy squad ahead of their game against Jersey in Edinburgh on Sunday 23 July.
As a result, Madsen, who qualifies through an Italian passport, will miss Derbyshire’s four-day fixture against Glamorgan, as he attempts to help Italy to their first-ever ICC T20 World Cup appearance, alongside the likes of Kent’s Grant Stewart.
Derbyshire spinner, Mark Watt, will also feature in the qualifiers, having been named in the Scotland squad. Watt was a key performer for Scotland as they recently missed out on 50-over World Cup qualification and will be aiming to go one step further in the shorter format.
