Madsen ruled out of final game

Derbyshire batter, Wayne Madsen, will miss the final game of the LV= County Championship season against Glamorgan through a finger injury sustained in the draw against Sussex.

Madsen left the field on Day Three, having attempted a catch as Derbyshire looked to close out an impressive first innings bowling performance, and played no further part in the match.

He was assessed by the Club’s Medical Team, and it has been determined that Madsen will not require surgery, however he will not be fit in time for next week’s game against Glamorgan at Cardiff.

Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, admits he’s disappointed to lose Madsen for the final game of the season, but has praised his performances through the 2023 campaign.

“Luckily it’s not broken, there’s issues with his tendon and when I saw it yesterday I think we’ve got the best possible outcome I think we could have got.

“Wayne has had a monster year for us, not only in runs and catches but also what he brings to our dressing room, so it’s disappointing to lose him for the last game.”
