Players to leave Derbyshire at the end of the season

Suranga Lakmal, Mark Watt, Tom Wood and Archie Harrison will leave Derbyshire upon the conclusion of their contracts, while Mattie McKiernan will retire from professional cricket at the end of the 2023 season.

McKiernan claimed 32 T20 wickets for Derbyshire, featuring regularly in the T20 side from 2020 onwards, while he also scored his maiden first-class century against Leicestershire in 2022.

He will now look towards a career in coaching, where he will aim to provide valuable knowledge of the professional game to the next generation of upcoming players.

Wood played 44 matches over eight seasons, across two spells with the Club, scoring a combined total of 976 runs, including two white ball centuries, while Harrison featured in one List A game for the Club, making his first team debut in 2022 against Worcestershire.

Lakmal enjoyed a glittering international career with Sri Lanka, taking the fourth-most Test wickets for the nation (171), as well as claiming a further 117 wickets across ODI and IT20s.

He retired from the international game in 2022, before joining Derbyshire, where his first season was cut short by an elbow injury. Overall, Lakmal claimed 29 wickets across all formats, including one first-class five-wicket haul.

Scotland spinner, Mark Watt, will also not be retained for the 2024 season, due to the ICC Twenty20 World Cup clashing with the Vitality Blast, limiting his availability.
