Aneurin Donald has been named T20 Captain of Derbyshire Falcons Men for the 2026 Vitality Blast campaign.
The wicketkeeper-batter has been one of the most effective T20 batters in world cricket over the last two seasons, with his 2025 Blast campaign seeing him score almost 450 runs while striking at more than 200 for the entire tournament.
Donald, who signed a contract extension earlier this winter, equalled the record for the fastest Vitality Blast half-century, reaching the milestone in just 13 balls against Yorkshire at Queen’s Park last summer, while all of his nine 50s in Falcons colours have come in 25 balls or less.
A Vitality Blast winner with Hampshire Hawks, Donald will be aiming to mastermind a run to Finals Day with the Falcons, and he will be supported by the T20 experience of Ross Whiteley, Wayne Madsen and Big Bash winner, Caleb Jewell.
Wayne Madsen will continue to lead the men’s side in the Rothesay County Championship, while Adrianna Darlow retains the Falcons Women captaincy in both white ball formats, as they head into the new campaign.
Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, said: “Nye has established himself as one of the best T20 batters in England since signing for us and leading our T20 side will be the next step in his development as a top player in the format.
“He’s keen to challenge himself and step out of his comfort zone, he joined me in Abu Dhabi for the T10 played his role to perfection and now he will take on the responsibility of captaining us in the Vitality Blast.
“When he signed a new contract with us, Nye rebuffed plenty of interest from other counties and that kind of commitment to our Club shows me he’s the right person to lead us in T20 cricket this summer.”
Donald added: “It’s a great honour for me to be named T20 captain for Derbyshire Falcons, I’m proud to be leading the side in the Vitality Blast and I know we have a squad capable of challenging for silverware.
“I’m looking forward to putting my stamp on the team and I have an experienced core of winners as a sounding board, as well as a really exciting crop of young, innovative players who are hungry to impress.”
