Derbyshire Heritage Officer and Club Photographer, David Griffin, has won Photograph of the Year at the Rothesay Domestic Cricket Journalism Awards.
Griffin, who has been a Derbyshire Member for more than 50 years and boasts an ongoing streak of attending more than 1,000 consecutive matchdays of Derbyshire cricket, was presented with the award during the ceremony at Lord’s.
The winning photo, Groundstaff from Above, impressed the judges by being a totally different viewpoint of a much-witnessed occurrence. The groundstaff preparing the pitch would not normally inspire a photographer to record the scene but viewed from above with early morning shadows, it presents a unique image of an everyday cricketing event.
Derbyshire Head of Marketing & Communications, Tom Skinner, said: “I’m delighted by the news that David Griffin has won the Photograph of the Year Award at the Domestic Cricket Journalism Awards.
“This award not only recognises David’s ability as a photographer, but also his passion for county cricket, which he has been dedicated to for more than 50 years.
“Everyone associated with Derbyshire County Cricket Club congratulates David on his achievement.”
Griffin added: “As someone who has given his life to supporting and documenting county cricket, I am immensely proud to receive this award.
“I would like to thank Derbyshire County Cricket Club for the opportunity to be their Club Photographer for more than 20 years and I look forward to capturing the wonder of our game for many more years to come.”
