Derbyshire spinner, Shoaib Bashir, has been named in the England squad for the Rothesay first Test against New Zealand, starting on Thursday 4 June at Lord’s.
Bashir, 22, will be hoping to add to his current tally of 19 test caps after making a bright start to life as a Derbyshire player, having claimed 14 wickets in five County Championship appearances.
The spinner has 68 wickets to his name in Test matches, including four five-wicket hauls. He remains available for Derbyshire’s upcoming Division Two fixture against Middlesex at Lord’s, starting this Friday (11am).
Should he feature in the first Test, Bashir would become the first player to play for England while contracted to Derbyshire since George Scrimshaw in 2023 and the first to play Test cricket since Dominic Cork in 2002.
