Derbyshire Women & Girls Pathway graduate, Danni Wyatt-Hodge, struck an incredible century as England began their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup campaign with an emphatic win over Sri Lanka.
Wyatt-Hodge hit an unbeaten 105 as England posted the highest-ever score in a Women’s T20 World Cup (219-1) at Edgbaston on Friday night. She was backed up superbly by Amy Jones (53) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (46*).
With the ball, Freya Kemp stole the show with an excellent spell of 4-22, while Sophie Ecclestone, Linsey Smith, Lauren Bell and Charlie Dean were all in the wickets.
England are next in action on Tuesday, when they face Ireland in a preview of September’s Metro Bank One-Day International at Derby.
Ireland tasted defeat to Scotland in their opening fixture of the tournament, despite 39 from Amy Hunter and 33 from Orla Prendergast, as The Blaze’s Bryce sisters combined for a partnership of 106 for the third Scottish wicket.
