Nick Potts has signed a new two-year deal, keeping him with Derbyshire until the end of the 2028 campaign.
Potts has enjoyed something of a breakout campaign across all formats this summer, with his red ball showing of four wickets in the win over Middlesex at Lord’s the precursor to an impressive limited overs summer.
The Pathway graduate finished his first full Vitality Blast campaign with 16 wickets, a number only bettered for the Falcons by Pakistan’s Akif Javed, and currently has nine wickets at an average of 20.88 in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.
The 24-year-old has established himself as an important member of the squad, providing a string of strong performances in the absence of Zak Chappell, Harry Moore and Pat Brown through injury.
Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, said: “I’m so pleased by Nick’s development this summer. One of the biggest traits you can ask of a player is when they get an opportunity, they take it – and Nick has taken his opportunity both hands.
“He’s becoming an excellent all-formats bowler and the experiences he’s has this season will benefit him moving forward. Nick was patient and kept working hard for his chance in the team, but we see him every day and we know the quality he had, so I’ve never worried about turning to him.
“When you think about everything Nick has done this season, then you add in the returns of Muhammad Abbas, Zak Chappell, Harry Moore and Pat Brown, plus Luis Reece hopefully being able to bowl more next summer, our attack can compete with anyone in 2027 and beyond.”
Potts added: “This has been a big summer for me and I’m feeling in a really good place going into the final months of the season and the winter.
“When you come through the Pathway, you’re always hungry for first team cricket and the coaches have always encouraged me to stay ready and keep improving, because my opportunity would come.
“I’m learning from every game and I want to use these experiences to keep improving and help us to challenge for trophies in the next two years.”
