Dal to retire from professional cricket

Derbyshire all-rounder, Anuj Dal, will retire from professional cricket with immediate effect to pursue a career in financial services.

Dal, 30, has scored more than 3,500 all-format runs for Derbyshire, including seven centuries, and claimed 128 wickets since making his debut for the Club in 2018.

He was a standout player in the 2022 campaign, scoring 957 first-class runs batting at seven, as well as taking 34 wickets, earning him the Club’s County Championship Player of the Year award.

As well as his on-field exploits, Dal has been a significant figure in the wider game through his role as PCA Vice Chair, which he has held since 2021.

The all-rounder will now focus on a career in finance with Ryley Wealth Management, having worked with the company during the off-season for a number of years.

Dal said: “I’m disappointed that we weren’t able to agree terms on a new contract and that my time at the Club has come to an end after nine seasons. I leave with many fond memories and a great deal of gratitude for the opportunity to fulfil my childhood dream of playing professional cricket.

“I’ve been fortunate to share a dressing room with some brilliant teammates and make friendships and memories that will stay with me long after my playing days. I’d also like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way, particularly the Derbyshire supporters who have backed me throughout my time at the Club.

“While it’s difficult to say goodbye to this chapter of my life, I’m incredibly excited about what comes next and beginning a new career with Ryley Wealth Management.

“I’ll always be grateful to Derbyshire for giving me the opportunity to live out my dream and I wish the Club and players nothing but the best moving forward.”
